Steele Davis, owner of DefenX.He quotes and pours every floor.
What is your floor like right now?
Pick the one closest to yours. It changes what needs to happen before anything goes down.
Why garage floors fail
A floor that is going to fail looks fine on the day it goes down. These are the reasons it lets go later.
Hot tyres
Tyres come in hot off the road and soften thin coatings. When the car backs out, the coating comes with them.
Damp from below
After a Brisbane storm the ground under a slab stays wet. Moisture moving up through the concrete pushes a coating off from underneath.
No grinding
A coating sticks to whatever is on top: dust, oil and the weak skin of the slab. Grinding takes that off so the epoxy bonds to sound concrete.
Rushed curing
Each layer needs time before the next one and before the floor takes weight. Humidity in Brisbane changes how long that is, so the schedule follows the conditions.
Anatomy of a DefenX floor

Every DefenX floor is built up in five layers. Tap one to see what it does.

The offer
The Slab Check Quote
Most epoxy floor quotes are a number on a page. This one starts with the slab.
Steele checks the slab before any price
Cracks, damp and old coatings are found first, because that is where failed floors start. The quote covers what your slab needs, not a guess.
The preparation is named, not hidden
Grinding, crack repair and removal are written into the quote beside the system, so you can hold it against any other quote line by line.

Metallic epoxy on the Gold Coast
DefenX poured the copper and black floor in a recreation room at Gilston, in the Gold Coast hinterland. The same system goes into garages, sheds and shops across the coast, in whatever colours you choose.
Near the beach and along the canals the ground can sit wet for days after rain, and some of it stays damp all year. Moisture coming up through a slab is what pushes coatings off from below, so Steele checks for it before he quotes.
In the northern estates around Coomera and Pimpama, a lot of garages sit on slabs that are only a year or two old. New concrete needs to dry out before it is coated, and Steele will ask when yours was poured.

Questions people ask first
Do you pour floors on the Gold Coast?
Yes. Steele quotes and pours across the Gold Coast, from Ormeau and Coomera down to Coolangatta and out to the hinterland. Add your suburb to the request so he can confirm timing for your job.
How much will my floor cost?
Three things set the price: the size of the floor, the state of the slab and the finish you choose. Send a photo and a rough size and Steele will quote it. Ask for the preparation to be named as well as the pour, so you can compare it fairly with any other quote.
What happens on the 10 minute call?
You tell Steele what is on the floor now, what it is used for and what you want it to be. He tells you what the slab will need, what to watch for in any quote, and whether a photo is enough or he should see it in person.
Do I have to book a call to get a quote?
No. Send a photo and your number through the form and Steele replies within 24 hours. The call is there for people who want to talk it through first.
Is the checklist really free?
Yes. It is the same list Steele works to, written down so you can hold any quote against it. There is no catch and no obligation.
Will hot tyres lift the floor?
Hot tyre lifting mostly happens with thin paint-on coatings over concrete that was never ground. A metallic floor is a full epoxy system bonded to ground concrete, which is what stops it lifting.
Is a metallic floor slippery?
The finish is smooth and glossy, so it can be slippery when wet. If the floor is in a garage, a wet entry or a shop, ask Steele about adding grip to the top coat.
Will my floor match the Studio preview exactly?
Not exactly, and that is the point of metallic. The Studio shows the colour in your room. The pattern forms as the pigment settles, so your floor will be the only one like it.
So, what would stop you?
Say the slab checks out, you like the colour and the timing works. Is there anything else that would hold you back?
If it is the price, the checklist shows you how to compare quotes properly. If it is the slab, a photo tells Steele most of what he needs. If it is time, the call takes 10 minutes.
