Left of the roller is a finished cream and taupe metallic floor. Right of it, Steele rolls a top coat on another job.
What is your floor like right now?
Pick the one closest to yours. It changes what needs to happen before anything goes down.
Why garage floors fail
A floor that is going to fail looks fine on the day it goes down. These are the reasons it lets go later.
Hot tyres
Tyres come in hot off the road and soften thin coatings. When the car backs out, the coating comes with them.
Damp from below
After a Brisbane storm the ground under a slab stays wet. Moisture moving up through the concrete pushes a coating off from underneath.
No grinding
A coating sticks to whatever is on top: dust, oil and the weak skin of the slab. Grinding takes that off so the epoxy bonds to sound concrete.
Rushed curing
Each layer needs time before the next one and before the floor takes weight. Humidity in Brisbane changes how long that is, so the schedule follows the conditions.
Anatomy of a DefenX floor
Five layers. One floor.
Every DefenX floor is built up in five layers. Tap one to see what it does.
What happens if you leave it?
Stains go deeper
Oil sits in bare concrete and spreads the longer it stays there.
The dust keeps coming
Unsealed concrete sheds a fine dust onto everything stored on it.
A failing coating gets harder to fix
Every patch over a peeling floor is another layer that has to be ground off later.
How long has this floor been on your list?

Metallic epoxy in Brisbane
DefenX pours metallic epoxy floors in garages, sheds, shops and indoor rooms across Brisbane. Every job starts with the slab you already have, so Steele checks it for cracks, damp and old coatings before he quotes.
A lot of Brisbane sits on reactive clay that swells after summer storms and shrinks in dry spells. That movement is why so many older slabs here have hairline cracks. They are usually fine to coat once they have been filled.
Under a raised Queenslander, the slab was often poured for storage rather than living on. If you are turning it into a rumpus or a garage, those slabs need checking for damp first.

Metallic, flake, polished or paint?
Most people looking at metallic are weighing it against one of these. Here is how they compare.
| Metallic epoxy | Flake epoxy | Polished concrete | Garage paint or kit | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Looks | Glossy, flowing, one of a kind | Speckled and textured | Natural grey concrete | One flat colour |
| Underfoot | Smooth. Grip can go in the top coat | Textured, good grip | Smooth | Smooth |
| Hides dust and marks | Shows dust, wipes clean | Very well | Shows old stains and cracks | Shows wear quickly |
| Hot tyres | Holds, as a full system on ground concrete | Holds | Nothing to lift | Often lifts |
| Best for | Showpiece garages, shops and rooms | Hard-working garages and sheds | New slabs in good condition | A quick, cheap refresh |
DefenX pours metallic and flake floors. Not sure which suits your space? Ask Steele. Or try colours in the Studio.
What sets the price
Every floor is priced on what it needs. These four things move the number most.
Floor area
A single garage and a double garage are different jobs. Measure it or send a photo.
The slab
Cracks to fill, an old coating to grind off or damp to deal with all add preparation.
The finish
Metallic or flake, and how many colours go into the pour.
Access and timing
Shops that can only close for a few days need the work planned around it.
Questions people ask first
Do you pour floors in Brisbane?
Yes. Steele quotes and pours across Brisbane, north, south, east and west, and out into Moreton Bay, Redlands, Logan and Ipswich. Add your suburb to the request so he can confirm timing for your job.
How much will my floor cost?
The floor area, the condition of the concrete and the finish you choose all affect the price. Send your suburb and any details you have. Steele reviews the job and explains what he needs to quote it.
Can you coat the concrete I already have?
The slab needs to be looked at first. Tell Steele about cracks, damp patches or old coatings, and send a photo if you can. The condition of the slab decides the preparation.
How long will the space be out of use?
Preparation, the coating system and curing conditions all affect the schedule. Ask Steele when the work can happen and when people or vehicles can go back on the floor.
My slab has cracks. Can it still be done?
Usually, yes. A lot of Brisbane sits on reactive clay, so hairline cracks in older slabs are common. They get filled before the coating goes down. A crack where one side has dropped is different, and Steele will tell you if yours needs more than filling.
Will hot tyres lift the floor?
Hot tyre lifting mostly happens with thin paint-on coatings over concrete that was never ground. A metallic floor is a full epoxy system bonded to ground concrete, which is what stops it lifting.
Is a metallic floor slippery?
The finish is smooth and glossy, so it can be slippery when wet. If the floor is in a garage, a wet entry or a shop, ask Steele about adding grip to the top coat.
Can you coat the slab under my Queenslander?
Often, yes. Slabs under raised Queenslanders were usually poured for storage, so they need checking for damp coming up from the ground before they are coated. Mention it in the form and send a photo.
What is the difference between metallic and flake?
Metallic is a smooth, glossy pour where the pigment drifts into a pattern that only exists once. Flake is a textured finish with coloured chips, which grips well and hides dust. Both go over the same prepared slab. Steele can quote either.
Can I choose the colours?
Yes. Try combinations in the DefenX Studio, then send Steele the design. He will tell you how the pour is likely to settle in your space.
So, what would stop you?
Say the slab checks out, you love the colour and the timing works. Is there anything else that would hold you back?
If it is the price, the timing or not being sure about the colour, tell Steele in the form. He would rather hear it now than guess.
